Building a pond does not have to be a big undertaking unless you are considering building a very large pond. A pond can be as simple as a waterproof container sunk in the ground. If you are considering an elaborate pond with multiple tiers for waterfalls, you should at least consult a book written on pond building. Or, you can retain a professional who has built a number of ponds successfully. But for our purposes we are talking about a small pond without filtration, a project which can be done in a weekend.
When and why would you make a raised bed in the garden? Maybe it is the soil; heavy clay or sandy soil happens to the best of us. Rather than trying to amend this soil to make it into something most of your plants will prosper in, you can add good soil right on top of it. This "raises your bed" and provides better drainage which most plants will appreciate. Or do you have lawn which you would like to convert into flowerbeds? Would you like to dig up all of the grass or is there a better way to eleminate it?
